The joy of the bike was with me from an early age. Back in the days when kids were free to roam, I spent hours exploring the neighborhood with no cares in the world. The idea of racing a bike or even making it a profession was not even a forethought in my mind. My role models were male professional athletes and my early aspirations were to be a professional baseball player.
My passion for the bike was renewed in college during summer break when my Mom introduced me to mountain biking. The mountain bike was my gateway to the outdoors and I road it every chance I got.
After graduating from college, I was seeking a new athletic challenge and decided to give triathlons a try. Despite being my weakest leg, biking was the sport I loved the most. One day while riding in Central Park, I was recruited by Julie Upton, to race on her CRCA (Century Road Club Association) sub team. I tried a few races and the rest was history. The past 13 years, I have raced my bike in the amateur and pro ranks most recently alongside my dear friend and mentor Laura Van Gilder. Her passion for the bike is second to none and she has inspired me to strive for my best each and every day.
